Aloha! This year’s California Fun Day was held on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the Guide Dogs for the Blind campus in San Rafael, California. The theme for the event was “Hawaii Fi’do” and in keeping with the theme, the campus was transformed into a paradise for puppies and people.
Puppy raisers with their puppies in various stages of training, graduates of GDB with their working guides, members of the Lagacy Society, and of course the hardworking staff at GDB, were in for a great day of fun.
Opening ceremonies included a traditional hula performed by Board Member Vickie Kennedy, introduction of puppy raisers representing all states, and opening remarks by CEO Nancy Gardner.
Events included presentations on the new Dog Training Pilot Program, a hands-on demostration of canine massage techniques, a discussion on raising sensitive puppies, and preparation for training. Games and activities were available for fun and education, along with club vendor booths where many dog-themed prizes were available in opportunity drawings, as well as many other creative items for sale.
As always, a highlight of the day is the delivery of 8 week old puppies on the center stage into the waiting arms of puppy raisers from across the 8 western states. The crowd was once again entertained by the lovable Puppy Stork, Mick Aguilera.
