This year’s Junior Blind Olympics, presented by Junior Blind of America, was held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Junior Blind of America campus in Los Angeles. Opening ceremonies included the Parade of Athletes, featuring the USC Marching Band, and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villagiarosa (seen below with Melissa and ‘Anya’).
Events included archery, shot-put, goal ball, 100 yard dash, running long jump, rowing, soccer throw, and aquatics. In the “Blindness Discovery Area”, participants could take part in activities intended to educate, enhance awareness, and increase sensitivity towards tose who are blind and/or visually impaired.
Volunteers from L.A. Southwest and GDB were available throughout the day as athlete volunteers and coaches, demostrating Juno work, and providing those always popular “puppy pets” and introducing our new Pet Ambassador Dogs.
