Manhattan III – Male Black Labrador Retriever

Manhattan was born on August 2, 2021 to Male Black Labrador Retriever Whiskers III [Front] [Side] and Female Black Labrador Retriever Veronica V [Front] [Side]. He is being raised by Daya and Avanthi. He was a Left Shoulder Shave. The litter of six puppies included one black male, Manhattan, three yellow males, Madden, Moby and Moss, and two black females, Miata and Moira.

Manhattan is being raised by Avanthi and Daya, and co-raised by Brenda & Mike.

Meaning of Manhattan:
1) An island in New York City surrounded by the Hudson, East, and Harlem rivers.
2) A cocktail made of whiskey and sweet vermouth, usually with a dash of bitters and a maraschino cherry.
3) A city on the Kansas River in the northeast central part of the state of Kansas.

From Wikipedia: The name Manhattan derives from the Munsee Lenape language term manaháhtaan (where manah- means “gather”, -aht- means “bow”, and -aan is an abstract element used to form verb stems). The Lenape word has been translated as “the place where we get bows” or “place for gathering the (wood to make) bows”. According to a Munsee tradition recorded by Albert Seqaqkind Anthony in the 19th century, the island was named so for a grove of hickory trees at the lower end that was considered ideal for the making of bows. It was first recorded in writing as Manna-hata, in the 1609 logbook of Robert Juet, an officer on Henry Hudson’s yacht Halve Maen (Half Moon). A 1610 map depicts the name as Manna-hata, twice, on both the west and east sides of the Mauritius River (later named the Hudson River). Alternative etymologies in folklore include “island of many hills”, “the island where we all became intoxicated” and simply “island”, as well as a phrase descriptive of the whirlpool at Hell Gate.
It is thought that Manhattoe originally only referred to a location at the very southern tip of Manhattan.
