Dogs at Lions
On Tuesday afternoon [June 12, 2007], members of the Manhattan Beach-Hermosa Beach Lions Club attended a meeting at Raleigh Studios where they hosted representatives of Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Melissa Hudson, a teacher and former South Bay resident, spoke at the meeting. She became blind for rheumatoid arthritis, and she relies on her dog, Anya.
During the Lions’ 1925 international convention, Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness.”
The June 12 luncheon in Manhattan Beach was presented by the Guide Dogs affiliate, LA Southwest Guide Dog Raisers, located in Manhattan Beach.
